Well who'd have known the final brief in 'Contemporary Media Issues' would have been so fun!
We were set the task of in groups creating a fictional person and then creating fake profiles on various social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. This is often done by major TV shows to advertise their programmes and allow fans to interact with their favourite characters as it's well known that television shows can no longer just have one dimension, they need an online presence too.
We're not ones to do things by halves so our group decided we'd all create a fictional character each and create almost a sitcom based on their lives. The plot was that they are all 1st year students living together from across the world and we would intertwine their lives on these social platforms.
We began by creating a list of all the stereotypes that we know of students and then assigned ourselves one. We had a geek, an evil mastermind and his french gay twin, a chav, a jock and my character, an indie.
Some group members dressed themselves up as their characters but I decided to ask my friend if I could use her photos as we've spent years mocking her because she claims she's indie and she really isn't. So after getting her permission I created the profiles.
I decided that my character was a drug user who was also very conscious about saving the whales. She was quite antisocial with her fellow flatmates and enjoyed arty things such as poetry and galleries.
As I went about setting up the profiles I began to have a lot of fun getting into the mindset of her whilst doing the statuses and communicating with others, fictional and real people! I also decided to create a twitter and a tumblr to expand the presence of 'Sage Indie' on the internet.
Here's the links to her profiles:
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003627605331
Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/sageindie
Tumblr: http://sageindie.tumblr.com/
I also created a fake event fundraiser on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/events/287958447942192/
I found the whole process very enjoyable and I honestly didn't think I'd have as much fun as I did. One point that really interested me was that people who I didn't know added and accepted Sage on facebook even though they didn't have a clue who they were. They also attempted to communicate with her. Admittedly a lot were creepy old men but it showed that the internet is a vast place which can be used for good or bad purposes.

The Final Presentation!
So today we had the long-awaited presentation of our museum exhibition idea in front of a panel. We were the second group out of the whole course to do it so I found this the most daunting as none of our friends were before us so we couldn't get any tips. However this was also a major advantage as when we'd done we could just relax, and as it was a sunny day this was extra good!
One of our main worries was that our presentation would not last the full 15 minutes that it was meant to, but we even went over a bit! I don't normally mind public speaking at all as I'm normally a very chatty person but I found this experience quite intimidating but I know it was good practice for a career within the media.
Now the wait is on for our results and I'm really not sure how we did. I thought that we did well considering we had to last minute change our idea and I strongly believed in it.

Planning the Presentation
So the past few weeks in 'Creativity & Concepts' me and my team members, Ian and Sam have been very busy creating and planning the idea for our presentation of the exhibition for the museum project. However this hasn't been all problem free. We started off with an idea called 'The Tour Experience'. This was a 5 stage exhibition taking the visitors on a journey from the recording studio to the aftershow party. We were then informed that this wasn't really completed suited for music lovers and was more about celebrity so it was suggested that we change our idea completely.
We would not take this as a set back though. We immediately went back to the drawing board and decided on a new idea called 'This is Garbage', an exhibition focusing on instruments that our made out of rubbish and household objects, something which we feel that music lovers would feel very passionate about.
Here's a link to a website for 'Urban Strawberry Lunch', a company in Liverpool who perform internationally with their home-made orchestra: http://www.usl.org.uk/
So over the next few weeks we will be finishing off the presentation and then pitching it in front of a mystery panel. I'll update you with how it goes!
